It might be a bit too far-fetched, but it could also be possible there were rumors of a crime he committed and she urgently needed to tell him she was the one who did it. Now there is the question what caused the sudden realization of the speaker.
It was a sudden realization, because she called him at night, it means it has to be something of vital importance which cannot wait till the next day. Why not? The phrase"but you're still the same" implies that, since there must be something different, the speaker has changed. To me it sounds like the speaker is showing the second person a dark secret she never showed anyone before"I'm gonna show you where i'ts dumped, but have no fear" The speaker is sure the other person will be shocked/frightened by what she is going to show him, but she also tells him not to be afraid. My InterpretationI don't think this song is about breakup or an impossible relationship.
